Installation | Servicing | Repair | Replacement in the DFW-Metroplex
In a study conducted in 2009, the Environmental Working Group found more than 300 potential pollutants in American tap water, including heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants. Not surprisingly, many homeowners and business owners have opted to install water filtration systems to remove these dangerous substances. But there are many different products on the market and a variety of ways to filter your water. How do you know what’s best for you? The licensed professional plumbers at Public Service Plumbers can help.

Do You Need a Water Filtration System?
If you have a private well or your water consistently smells or tastes funny, it’s usually a good idea to have your water tested. In most instances, you can do this for as little as $20. To initiate the process, call the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Safe Water Hotline at 1-(214) 753-4633. They’ll provide you with all the information you need to test your water.
Once you know what is in your water, you can choose a water filtration system that works best for you. In many areas in the Dallas – Ft. Worth area, a carbon-based Brita system that attaches to your faucet is all you’ll need. However, if you’re worried about fluoride, heavy metals, spores, and other contaminants, you can install a certified NSF International or Water Quality Association approved filter.
If you find that your water has an unpleasant smell, tastes like chlorine, or contains sediment, you may want to do more than install a filter on the faucet or fixture. Under those circumstances, it may be in your best interests in these kinds of cases to install a filter at the point where the water enters your home, so that all the water in your house – from your shower, washing machine, to kitchen sink – is filtered.
What Kind of Water Filter Works Best For You?
There are a number of options regarding filtered water: faucet mounted filters; pitcher filters; under the sink filters; and whole house filters. If you are primarily interested in removing chlorine, odors, cryptosporidium, and sediment, a carbon-based filter will likely do the job.
If you have sulfur in your water, lead, or specific kinds of pesticides or heavy metals, Public Service Plumbers can evaluate your situation and determine the best water filtration system for you. Our plumbers install a wide variety of water filtration systems, including Cuno, Everpure, and American Plumber.
