Hydro-Jetting a Sewer Line or Drain

April 28, 2017 | Blog

Public Service Plumbers LogoWhen you have a blocked sewer line or a clogged drain, there can be a tendency to try to resolve the problem yourself. But a professional plumber will have the tools to quickly, safely and effectively resolve your problem. One of the best processes for addressing this type of problem is what is known as “hydro-jetting.”

In the hydro-jetting process, a professional plumber will use water at high pressure to break up a blockage. In most instances, the systems force water through your pipes at about 4,000 psi. Hydro-jetting is very effective for removing hair, sand, silt and mineral buildup on residential pipes and has been used to unclog commercial drains or sewer lines that may have food or grease buildup. One of the real advantages of hydro-jetting is that it actually removes any built-up substance, unlike snaking, which breaks up blockages but leaves them in the pipes. In addition, hydro-jetting does not involve the use of any chemicals, so you don’t have to worry about toxins in your home or business.

There are some precautions you need to take before using hydro-jetting. While the pressure of the water may break up tree roots that have invaded your drain or sewer pipes, you may be better off using a snake to break up the roots first. In addition, if you have broken or weak pipes, hydro-jetting is not appropriate.
